Chardonnay is considered a sweet white wine…
White wines are usually served with white meats……for example…..appetizers such as cheeses and crackers, chicken, porkloin, fish!
Red wines are usually served with red meats…
beef, ribs, and rich foods!

If it is Oaked then I would pair it with wild Pacific Salmon with a dill cream sauce or prawns dripping in garlic butter. If it is unoaked I would match it up with some seared scallops.

First, Chardonnay is a wine that is always good by itself, especially for friends who are not regular "drinkers."
Now to your question: Both fruit salads and regular salads pair well with Chardonnay. Especially salads that include mild cheese.
Chardonnay is excellent with any bread and dipping sauce that includes olive oil.
Chardonnay goes will with "non-fishy" fish such as cod, Halibut, Perch, or Maui Maui. The wine is strong enough to complement the fish without over powering the fish. Salmon as an example, because of its distinctive flavor, is better served with a very dry wine such as Pinot Griggio.
Chardonnay goes well with Veal if no sauce is used with the Veal.
For me, Chardonnay is a wine for a gathering of friends when everyone wants something light to drink and stay sober to enjoy the conversation.
