What is a good German chardonnay to give as a gift?
November 29th, 2009
Long story short I’m picking up a bottle of wine – Chardonnay for my mom for Christmas.
It has to be German and I know nothing about wine.
I know she likes the gross cheap stuff like Franzia, Benziger and Sutter Home. She used to be a white zin fan.
Can you suggest a good german chardonnay along those lines?
Thanks…
Merry Christmas!

Um, Germany is not really known for Chardonnay. France and California are. I’m sure there are some from Germany that are decent.
Germany is really known for Riesling and some other wine that I can never spell -Gewerztraminer or something.

First thing is, Germans don’t typically grow Chardonnay.
If you are looking for German wine stick with something in the Riesling or Gewurztraminer family. If you really want Chard, try California.
