what winery invented white zinfandel?

for 15 years i’ve believed and preached that it was sutter home. now i was told it was berenger, from a lady who seems absolutly positive. i need to be right!

If you want to get technical about it a Rose wine made from red zinfandel grapes was done by a winery in Lodi in 1869. Sutter Home is the one generally credited as having first produced it in 1970. Though beringer now probably sells more now.

Late harvest Zinfandels are dessert wines, sweet and fun. And boy oh boy is this one sweet. It smells kinda like “tree sap, with a dark berry thing on the end of it.” Grapedonk’s first reaction was, “Wow! They neglected to tell you it’s Zinfandel made from concentrate—without the water added back in.”

Comments from the peanut gallery included. “Smells like a hot toaster—it’s like they made jelly out of it, then made it into wine.” It’s good, in really small amounts. As Grapedonk said, “You can sugar cereal with this stuff.”

We paid $18.99.

A friend of mine gave me a bottle of Berringer White Zinfandel Vintage 1997. What should I do with this wine?

I’m not a wine expert. As a matter of fact, the only wine I usually drink is champagne at wedding recptions. I had a friend tell me to throw it away because it probably turned to vinigar. I had another friend tell me that 1997 was a great year for the wine makers and it mat have some value. Is there a wine expert out there who can help me with my cheap bottle of wine.

Agreed this wine was ment to be drunk within the first year! It is probbaly off tasting now.
You could try a little as an experiment but I am betting that it is bad. Be prepared to through it away.

Just like the guy said above, is it still even pink after 9 years?!?!?!?

The Perli Vineyard Zin is composed with multiple varieties, creating a Zin that leans more toward a Claret in style. Bramble berries and spice are the predominant aromas, but you can also find hints of toffee, anise, fresh flowers, chocolate and stone fruits. The flavors are soft and supple, with loads of richness on the finish. It drinks like a wild berry cream soda – too easy to drink. A great wine for a person who does not like red wine, but complex enough for the most sophisticated wine geek.

How long can you keep an Exotic Fruit Zinfandel wine in the fridge before tossing it?

If unopened, I would consume within 1 year of bottling – not a wine you would age for years. If opened, not more than 5 days or so – this would apply to ANY open bottle of wine (time could very between type of wine and brand). Once the air hits the wine, that’s when the oxidation process starts and turns it to vinegar.

How old does a Zinfandel vine have to be to be "old vine"?

I know .. most.. of the better zins are old vine. I realize millions of new vines make up the billion or so bottles of white zin most wine novices try first. But is there a " certain year " of maturity that allows a vine/vineyard to be considered "old vine"

I have a bottle of FRE by sutter home 2005 white zinfandel wine it’s with the alcohol removed should I chill this befor sevring at a picnic ? help befor 8-16-07

All wine is better chilled!! Warm wine really doesnt sit well on stomachs outside!!
