Winery Notes:
The 2006 Keenan Merlot is composed of seventy-three percent Keenan Estate Merlot. Twenty-four percent of the wine is Merlot fruit harvested from the Napa Carneros region. A small amount (three percent) of the Keenan Estate Cabernet Franc was also included in the final blend.
The wine shows intense aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and cassis. Complex nuances of cocoa and coffee bean emerge as the wine opens up. This is a “big” Merlot that will age for many years to come.

Robert M. Parker, Jr.
It exhibits attractive earthy, mocha, chocolate and black cherry characteristics along with medium body, good fruit purity and a solid style. Drink it over the next decade.
Wine Enthusiast Magazine: 91 points
Impressive for its denseness, volume and sheer power. Shows deep, long-lasting flavors of blackberries, black cherries, currants, violets, cocoa and minerals, accented with smoky oak. Keenan has a long, great track record with Merlot, and here’s another one.

Gary Vaynerchuk continues the blind tasting theme and tries out two Merlots with some interesting results.
A classic Rutherford Cab with full violet-ruby color and distinctive local aromas of black cherry, dark olive and mineral, combined with hints of smoky oak and blackberry. The fine flavors echo the nose. Medium acidity and body plus supple tannins. With a fine balance between alcohol, fruit and tannin, this young wine already drinks well and will support 6-10 years aging.
Live from the New York Television Festival, Gary Vaynerchuk tastes some 2005 vintage Napa Cabs that can be found around the country.

Merlove is a documentary celebrating Merlot wine in response to the movie Sideways. Have the courage to embark on your own wine adventure. Merlove will help you learn more about wine, but it is your own experience that will guide your personal journey. As you try new wines you will gain love and appreciation for the gifts that wine can bring. Like anything in life, wine can be enjoyed and enhanced by sharing it with others. The bottom line is good wine is good wine and bad wine is bad wine, but that should not stop the adventure. The message of Merlove is that no single grape varietal should be singled out as superior or inferior to others. Enjoy as we interweave documentary style filmmaking with the animation of a bottle of Merlot wine named “Merlove” who must find a way to fill itself with love when aimlessly tossed into the ocean of mediocre Merlot wine.
Russ Weis, president of Silverado Vineyards, talks about Silverado’s heritage selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, UCD #30, one of only three heritage field selections of Cabernet Sauvignon in the entire state of California and the highly regarded wine Silverado makes from these vines, SOLO. These historical vines are planted at Silverado’s estate vineyard, the first vineyard planted to Cabernet Sauvignon in the Stags Leap District.
